I am interested in getting some ideas for some low maintenance techniques. Please post pics along with your ideas if you can!

Thanks :)

One thing you must know is to get a low maintenance SPS tank is that it will cost you.

For my current SPS tank all I do is clean the glass, and a water change once a week and empty/clean the skimmer cup. My suggestion is to have everything you can automated.

To me, a low maintenance SPS tank is one that is destined to crash. Depending on too much equipment can not only be costly to your wallet, but the set it and forget it mentality often can lead to heartache one day.

Low maintenance could also mean less equipment, no? He didn't say "automated"...

After I went from manual dosing to a dosing pump (bubble magus) the tank has been much more hands off. It is tested once a week and adjustments are made until i get things dialed in. Then it will be monthly.

I may end up replacing it or sublimenting it with a CA reactor depending on future needs to keep maintenance down.

Heres my simple sump, carbon is hanging, biopellet reactor is going and skimmer.

doser is not in the picture as it was not set up at the time.

I currently don't have a pic but my 'low' maintenance system is mainly because of my Liter Meter III. I do skimmer cup cleanings 2-3 times a week on my SRO unit that I love. Outside of that I do manual dosings of Calcium, Alk, and Mag.

The LMIII does top off of my lime water from a 44 gallon brute in my basement. Top off is set to 7.25 Liters a day and maintains sump level perfectly. I also use the LMIII to do automatic water changes. I currently do 8 Liters a day so it automatically pulls water out and puts new SW in. Does this over 150 different intervals so it keeps system more stable should levels on new Saltwater not be the 'exact' same params...I love this system and am awaiting another LMIII to automate my dosing.

I'm headed towards gasman with the self cleaning head on my SRO. I've got to get the preorder on this. While cleaning a cup does not require a lot of time it can clean the head and which hinders skimmer performance. Also, not removing and washing with regular water does not change the surface tension which halts skimming for a while.

CA Reactor setup properly
good flow
quality lighting
Good Skimmer
BWA MB7 and biofuel
I only change water every 4 months and my sps are growing out of the water.

Amen to manual labor
90/175
Euroreef skimmers
no fuge
vodka/mb7

Kent tech a/b/m daily

I do change 15-20% water weekly do to high fish loads as I continue to ramp up my vodka. Seems the more I dose the more I feel I can feed:fun2:

2 Geos waiting on CO2 and time to replace the 2 part!
