What would you guys say is the max size for soft corals?

It sounds like expecting a colony to grow larger than 36" (base depending) is reasonable.
 
Here are a few of mine. I have too many Kenyas, those all came from the same frag my buddy gave me 4 years ago to get started.

My Duncan hosts my mating pair of Skunkies. That and a forrest of GBTA and Toadstools make the 29 packed with soft coral.
