Show your Pectinias!

I'll take some pictures soon and post them. It recovered quite well and the colour is back.

I simply put the coral on the bottom of the display and away from direct light. Peripheral light as I like to call it. Make sure there is a little indirect flow so that nutrients can flow into it and dead/dying flesh can be gently swept away.

Unfortunately if it is severely stripped or stripping - more often than not; recovery rate is generally poor. The tips that are in rough shape should generally be ok for a proper recovery. It's when the stripping and damage is at the base that I find mortality rates quite high.

It will take a good 2 weeks to a month for colour to start to come back and flesh to grow back on the tips. Good Luck!

Here's a pic of it.

The top right corner is of a little concern...but overall....I've seen MUCH worse that have recovered. Give it some time and TLC ;)

Try and keep it away from intense light and try and keep algae from forming on the skeleton. It should be fine.

I got a beautiful pectinia but some of the tips were damaged and have some algae growing on them. Any suggestions? Can they be broken off?

Short answer - yes the tips can be broken off and flesh should form over the broken tip or wound.

Long answer - if you've accepted that the tips are already too far deteriorated; before breaking the tips off try removing the algae with a soft toothbrush or try adding a snail along the tip to consume the algae and get rid of the dead flesh. See what happens over time. If there is no change or positive result; you could break the tip off.

Good Luck.

Space invader pectina. Had to rehouse the clown fish as they were starting to tear it up a little. It does have some pretty long sweepers at night.

Ultimate pectina

Here's mine taken with camera phone. Saw it at the LFS, with no name. But had to have it.
