Showpiece hammer from a two head frag

This hammer is almost exactly 3 years old, and was bought as a 2 head frag for $20! 5 or 6 heads broke off when it couldn't support its own weight. I tried counting one morning before it opened fully, and has at least 50 heads now. Almost doubles in size each year, so patience is key, and after the first year these things grow quickly. Cheap chinese black box leds, in a 55 gallon with no sump and hob skimmer. Since tank is so crowded have to dose pretty heavily.

Note to self......please dont put palys, anthelia, or yellow polyps in your tank!!! They will take over!!

Love that hammer. They are among my favorite corals. Was it sold to you as a splatter? Any issues with the other euphilia so close?

It was sold as neon green?

No issues with anything so far, i am hoping the frogspawn will get along? But i did have a torch previously that i had to move that would sting each other.

Wow, what an awesome hammer. They are my favorite. This gives me hope, I just bought a 2 head hammer this weekend and hope it grows that good.

Any tips, what do you feed it, how often? Do you dose anything special?

Thanks

I do try to turn off pumps and direct feed it with mysis or something else once weekly. It and the frogspawn can eat a lot!

It takes a few months for them to settle in and start growing. But when they do they do quickly. 2 heads to 50+ in 3 years.
