Shrimp & Goby

I picked up a new fish at Bert's Ashland location (BTW - a great store that everyone should take time to check out!) a couple of days ago and am really happy with how this has gone!

I already had the pistol shrimp. As soon as the goby hit the tank they paired up. I'm also quite happy that they have made a burrow front and center in the tank - couldn't have placed them better if I'd dug it myself.

Don't they make a handsome pair? :-)

How cool is that?! What type of shrimp is that? How deep of a and bed would you recommend for this exact pair? I have been toying with the idea, but I don't have a very deep sand bed. I will add some though!

Hey Brock...I definitely think they are really cool too. :D

The shrimp is an Alpheus type (not sure if it is a bellulus or randalli - they look pretty similar).

I did a mixed size sandbed that is about 2" inches in depth. So they would have a variety of material with which to create stable burrows, the sandbed is composed of three different grades (standard aragamax sugar sized, "fiji pink" reef sand that with slightly larger grains, and a very large grade of small seashells that I picked up at Fuji's).

The live rock is supported with a couple of short PVC sections to prevent any settling or collapse from the burrowing activity. This could be an important consideration to avoid a broken tank bottom from a rock collapse!
