Can anyone help ID this shrimp/lobster. When I got home last night my teardrop maxima was dead and I found this creature inside of it.

That's an obligate commensal shrimp, possibly Paranchistus armatus (I've never gotten an exact id on it). They only live in association with Tridacna and usually die soon after removal from the clam. It didn't do any harm to your clam or cause its death.

Do you know anything about this shrimps life history? That is how do they become commensal with the clam...are they deposited and born there etc. Can one reintroduce a shimp like this one back into another clam?

Leslie is the greatest for Id's. :D

Thats a nice looking shrimp though. It's different. I wouldn't mind having a commensal shrimp with a clam as long as there were no adverse affects. :D

Neat Shrimp
Cheers
