This isn't that novel an idea, however I thought I'd share it with you. I am using my Osmolator in my tank, directly under my halide. I haven't had any problems with algae on it yet, but I'm sure it is bound to happen, most likely when I'm out of town as Murphy's Law dictates.
I fashioned a tiny shroud out of thin black plastic that I cut from a disposeable pot from the nursury. It is a 1.25 inch square that I notched on one side to fit around the sensor. Installation is simple, just twist the sensor to loosen it and slide the shroud between the top the sensor and the bottom of the mount. Twist and lock the sensor as normal.
