shutting off my vortech's

Every time i mess around inside my tank i turn off all my pumps except the return pump so i can see from the top, my question is, since i have 2 vortech pumps, one master and one slave, the master set at reefcrest mode and the slave in antisynch, everytime i turn off the power do i have to set their configurations again????, it seems that even though they keep the same color on the leds everytime i shut them off and on, yellow for the master and orange for the slave, it seems that the theres no difference in the way they spin, the master always spins fast and the slave always low.... how can i be sure they are in reefcrest mode and antisynch, some tips would be helpful, thanks
BTW i do put my hands in front of them but really dont notice a diference

that is somewhat of an artifact of the first generation Reefcrest mode, because the speed changes are over very long periods of time, the slave will mostly seem slow, especially if the master is at a faster period of its cycle. With the Gen2 Reefcrest mode this effect is reduced because the speed changes are more extreme and frequent.
