I've had a BTA for a while now and it has been growing and doing well. I walked in tonight and found that it was small, very deep in color, with it's mouth open and long white strings coming out of it. What could be wrong??? any help would be appreciated!

[welcome]

Could be a response to aggression (shrimps, for example, especially peppermint ones).

Check your pH and other parameters.

A pic would help but a couple of things to think of - when did you feed it last? How long have you had it? What lighting do you have it under? Welcome to RC.

He is changing fast! He is shrinking into a ball. His mouth is now closed and the long strans are gone. Please let me know what you think.
Just posted a pic in the gallery under inverts.

I have had him for about 3 months. He has been growing and moving around. I have 0 Ammon, 0 nitrites, 10 nitrates. I fed him about 4 days ago and he did fine. Also, I do not have enough light yet i know. He came to me attached to a piece of live rock. I really dont want to loose him, I have become kinda attached.

He may be excreting waste and this would be normal I would watch him closely because if he dies you will need to get him out quickly or it can really mess up the water quality. If he survives you need to really consider increasing your lights (altough I dont think you said what kind of lights you have)

my thanks to everyone for the welcome! He looks great today! I've never seen something look that bad to only look great in less than 12 hours! again thanks for everyones assistance!

Anemones can really scare you - my guess is that what you observed was due to the anemone excreting waste. I would still watch closely for the next few days. Glad the anemone is doing alright. Good luck

I just took a look, that is not what mine looked like. His mouth was wide open and there were long white "strings" coming out of his mouth! the strings were about 4 times his height and there were about 4 of them. He was very deflated and like I said his mouth was wide open. I can't find anything that looks like it and by the time I got my camera, the strings were gone. Like I said though, he looks fine today and even ate some Mysis shrimp even though he was a little sluggish.

Take a picture of him for us so we can see what he looks like, also might want to look under dying roses.
But if he has closed his mouth he may be just fine.

Not trying to sabotage the thread, but I think my GBT Anemone might be a little ill, too. I use a turkey baster to feed him thawed mysis shrimp, and it doesn't stick to him. It just falls right to the substrate. We've had him a couple of months and he's only ate really good twice.
