Sick lionfish

I just added a antennata lion fish to my tank. Drimp acclimated , folated for temp acclimation... no Qt. He seems to be normal a few hours before, but now his color turned to dark red and e just sit on a piece of rock. Still not eating, even live shrimp ...:uhoh3:

Where is he from? Many of them get caught with poison and may not recover. The best quality lionfish come from the Caribbean these days. They are guaranteed caught with hand nets and taking them from the wild there doesn't have a negative impact on the environment because they actually need to get rid of them there.

I rather doubt the original poster would want to import a lionfish from the Caribbean. Cost would be very high.

Has he eaten at all since he has been in your tank? They are one of the harder lions to get to start eating.....although they normally can't resist live shrimp. I would give him a few days since you just put him in your tank.

ok , problem solved : high nitrate 15ppm, attempted to eat a frozen ghost shrimp on a stick but the shrimp fall out and .... And the fish was caught by my cousin who just came back from a diving trip

i highly doubt the problem was the nitrate at 15ppm. i have averaged my nitrates between 40-60 for about a year now and nitrates being that high havent affected anything.

I don't think the nitrate was the issue. The fish was likely not in the mood of eating after being caught. It is also possible that he was just full from a last meal he had in the ocean before being caught. These fish don't necessarily eat every day.

He has eaten 4 guppies and he got a bulging stomach, I have read somewhere that lionfish will die if they eat too much because the food will rot inside their digestive tract before they digested. Very worry
