Sick Maxima?

I recently purchased a large maxima teardrop I beleive. It was bloomed out really nice for most of the week but then I noticed him withrawn into its shell a little bit and mouth open open very large. My tank was having some problems so I moved him to another tank that was much better. This morning he was still alive but looked about the same. Do you think he'll recover? Is there any thing else I can do? The tank he's in now has 6-65watt PC's over it and the tank he came out of has 400watt MH's. Do you think the PC's will Be enough for the week until I get my other tank straightened out? Every thing looks good on the MH tank but I was gonna dom 1 or 2 more water changes and I didn't want to stress him out any more so I figured I'd wait till I was done with all that before returning him to the MH tank what do you think?

large tear drops dont' do too well in captivity. You can try giving it a Fresh water bath and hope that it helps aleviate the pinching of the mantle, i would not put it under PC as it can starve make sure you feed it well.

Here's a couple pic's. Not sure if it's a tear drop or not maybe someone can tell me. Notice how wide the mouth is open.

Here's a pic from earlier this week its a bad picture but you can see its in better health and also under MH's at the timeso colors are a bit lighter.

it definitely has pinching mantle, so the fresh water dip for 5 mins would do it some good. A large maxima feed off ts zooanthellae so i would not place it under pc.

dip him 15 min ,5min is not long enough, i just did 3 maxes, one is a teardrop , that clam you have is not one btw, but all mine look great now, it is the 2nd time i have had to do it because i did not do them all last time and it came back ,go to clams direct and barry tells you at lest 15 min ,it worked great for me all clams are doing fine, they are all about 6in like yours

So what is pinching mantle is it just somthing they get? BTW does anyone know what kind of clam this is or is it just a maxima no teardrop

I wouldn't dip the clam unless you sure it is the "pinching" disease. You mentioned problems witht he tank....this could just be tank related and he needs time to heal. In that case, dipping would worsen him.

What were the problems with the tank?

And yes, it's a maxima, but not a teardrop. Just a gold maxima.

fwd for 5min wont do any thing for this clam, for pindhed mantle u need to do a fwd for 20 to 30 min's matsh temp and ph,however i dont think that it has pinched mantle,it is gaping and i dont think it will recover,u said that u have another problem with ur tank what is it?

ammonia .25
nitrite 0
nitrate 5
ph 7.8
phosphates were really high
I have done water changes and cleaned everything real good
the clam is what first led me to beleive somthing was wrong cause its been fine and then its withdrawn and gapping

keep doing water changes slowly and bring ur ph up to 8 over the next day or 2 dont dip it ,i dont think it's pinched mantle

That was two days ago I just finished my 2nd water change and parameters are looking good. Unfortunatly I allready FWD my clam you were a little late. All I can do now is wait and watch and keep you posted.

that PH is really low, you might want to add a buffer until you can bring it up to about 8.3.
