sick zoas?

I've recently added some zoas to my tank. They seemed to be thriving the first couple weeks, but recently have since changed in appearance and look sick. They remain open, but have their head drawn back. They are under a 250MH, amm/nit at zero, 1.025sg.. any ideas?

Usually mean they'tr stressed. Where in the tank are they and how muc light and flow are they getting? Also, have you been moving things around in the tank? This could stress them out.
Very nice RPE's btw.

They are about 20 inches down and receive 3 hrs MH supplimented by actinic 2x24 for 6. I've increased flow slightly, but they aren't in direct current. Maybe they will adjust.. thanks for the info.

I was mistaken with the 20in measurement - the zoas are about 10in down. I've also noticed the lower zoas on the same colony, which are slightly shaded, seem much healthier and are reaching and eating. Could the 250 mh be too intense at this depth?

Did you acclimate them properly to the light when they first arrived, meaning ( start from the lowest part of the tank, then slowly moving them up as time goes on )

they get 10 hrs of 2x24 10k/act. and 4 hrs of 12k 250mh. They were placed at approx 10 in from the top when they were thrown in. The frag tank they came out of was much more intense lighting - 6in depth under 400w MH for 6hrs. They have since spread back out for the most part and are much healthier. water flow was changed about a week after I put them in and that might have been what upset them.

Usually, dosn't matter what tank they came from and what lighting it had... folks always start new pieces either zoo/lps/sps in the lowest part of the tank... prevents light shock

How much light do you shine onto your zoas?

Jim

I use a 150w DE Giesmann megachrome blue on a 20 gallon high tank for approx 10 hrs a day.

Move them down and see how they do. I had my RPE under 250w MH on the sand and they did great.
