will regular silica sand be ok for an ocotpus , ive heard you can use it instead of southdown for fish , but I dotn knwo a bout octos

reason i ask , is cause I cant get ahold of southdown , unless i wanna drive 4 h ours away , and that place doesnt have it right now

I would only use aragonite sand because it will help to control you PH around 8.0. Silica sand can also cause diatom problems and lead to algae outbreaks.

ive used it before though in my fish only tanks without algae blooms

I was planning on mixing 80 lbs of live carribean sand from teh fish store with the silica .

SO it would buffer , plus i was planning on getting some crushed coral and grinding it up into smal rocks so it would buffer as well

Im just needing to know if the sand causes problems to the octos skin and what have you

Im hoping its ok

cause I cant get calcium based sand !

I often use a mix of kids play saind and coral sand to buffer... diatoms has never affected me much after the initial cycle

well i saw the quickcrete stuff , today when i went , and it looked too brown , so I got soem of this stuff , its not sand blasting sand , but they said they use it for it

It is very fine sand , but also has small rock pebbles in it , not really pebbles, they arde the size of about cracker after smashing the cracker over and over about 12 times lsol

its just i cant tell they are a differetn color than the sand

im just putting it in there

its bad enough in this hell h ole town i live in not beign able to find southdown , but when youc ant even find playsand im drawing the line and just using what i can get as long as its not dirty

hey didntwash

hey didntwash

i didnt wa**** , but its already crystal clear , so no worries , I just got to give me a bag of live sand
