silicon cure time?

How long does it take for silicon to cure? Just moved my tank to new house and wanting to put my DIY rock wall on my back wall. Fish and coral are sitting in brute trash cans till I get this wall put in and silicon dry. How long will it take?

Any input is appreciated!

The cure times listed on the tubes are frequently inadequate; most people with experience advise waiting at least a week.

If memory serves, the instructions state 2 days for a 1/4" bead. That one frequently uses much thicker beads extends the cure times. I'd wait at least a week to be safe.

i would wait ATLEAST 24 hours. my opinion 48 hours minimum or otherwise specified.

Nothing is that important that the world cant wait for some silicon to dry =P

unless it was like the hoover damn or something LOL

It will cure relatively rapidly at the surface and then slow down as the cure moves in to the bead; after 12-24 hours with the thicker bead we normally use, the cure will be slow enough that you probably won't smell the acetic acid/ vinegar as the silicone cures. Keep in mind though it's still going.

It's also moisture-driven cure: it'll cure faster in a more humid environment as opposed to a drier one. Hint hint.
