so since the nuts with the blkhds look like castle nuts, i am lead to believe the stack-up is.....

blkhd
gasket
glass (or acrylic)
nut

do you recommend silicone (rtv) with the gasket?

i don't see a way to tighten them, and i have heard about people with leaking ones! Plus i don't want to impact them done on the glass!

air compressor, impact wrench, glass - something doesn't look right here!

Correct. It doesn't have to be very tight. Hand tighten it as much as you can. Then I use a wrench and give a quarter turn. Then leak test them for 24 hrs. The only place I'd put silicone is inside the overflow and that can be a bit difficult. The only reason mine leaked was because the piece holding the pipe up snapped and the pipe angled causing it to leak.

I will say taking them off is a royal PITA. Once salt gets in those grooves, it is like working with sand.

As long as the ghasket is new and the glass is clean you should have no reason for silicone. you are correct the bulkhead goes between the bulkhead and the glass. hand tight usually works for me, Ive gone a 1/4 turn a few times but be carefull with a big wrench you can overtighten and create a leak by tearing and compressing the gasket.

no silicone here. i did have one leak because the gasket was on backwards, if that's possible. my gasket was smooth on one side, and had a couple rigdes on the other side. it leaked when the ridges were against the glass. i put the smooth side against the glass, and dripping stopped. i never read about that problem, but it fixed the leak i had.

ok, followed your directions last night and put 2 gallons in each overflow (about 1/2 full) so we will see if it leaks any. didn't see anything this morning.

air hose was almost too short!:D JK
