I figured you guys would be the best to ask.
Is this just as good as installing one? I thought for those of u's who can't
/don't want to mess with outlets this would be a good alternative.

Yes it will work just fine as said it may trip easier but better to trip then never at all. If you are going to change your receptacle be sure you wire on to the line side not the load side or the gfci will never trip at all. If you have aluminum wire dont touch it and have an electrician do it as there are special ways and pastes to use. Btw i am a licenced electrician
Some cord a plug GFCI devices are designed to trip when they lose power (a safety feature). These are not suitable, as a power outage will cause them to trip. Just ensure that the device you purchase maintains its set after it is unplugged.
also, if you replace a regular wall outlet with a GFCI, pigtail it in as opposed to straight wiring it, or every receptacle down line will also be GFCI protected (not necessarily a bad thing).
