Single Showpiece Fish for a 90 Gallon mixed Reef

I have both a fairy wrasse and a yellow eye kole tang in my 90. They do great together. I took a chance and added a beautiful flame angel and I got lucky. (It doesn't nip at coral). I would have preferred a potters angel but I have trouble getting good ones in my area.

I wanted to add a chevron tang instead of the kole tang, but I think they need a much larger tank to thrive.

Aggression and size.

I don't think size is the issue. Most people will agree to a 120 for a purple, so the 4ft of swimming room doesn't change.

However, aggression is whole nother beast.

I'm still on the fence. I would reccomend a purple tang for a tank 4ft+ as long as they had a plan for removing it if it got too aggressive.

Definitely go with some kind of dwarf angel. They are very active and bold fish. Can't go wrong with a classic flame angel, and some coral beautys are really stunning as well.

Venustus and multibar angels are great too if you can find some.

What other fish do you have?

No tang for me for a 4' tank. I have done that and do not like it. Tangs are too active make the tank feel small. And mine was not even fully grown.

If you want a bigger show fish regal angel has it all and it's doable with the right amount of rockwork. If you're ok with the smaller size of dwarf angels there are many choices and you can even keep a pair. Keep in mind some of the dwarf angels can get quite big too.

For a mixed reef, I'd be very wary of these angels, they can have a high risk of nipping corals.
