Size Ratio Male v/s Female False Percula Clowns

Hello,

I wanted to know the size ratio of male v/s female false percs.

Actually I got a couple of clowns keeping in mind that I was hoping for a pair. The larger of the two is about 3 inch and the smaller one is 1.5 inch. They sleep together, swim together and generally hang out together. But just sometimes, once in a bluemoon I see the female kind of charging towards the male. Very very rarely. What are the chances of these two actually forming a pair?

In my opinion they are a pair. She just charges him to remind him who's in charge every once in a while.

To answer your question. Here is a pic of my adult pair.

Well thank you.:D It's hard to measure a live fish, but I would say the female is a little more than 2 1/2 inches and the male is about 1 3/4 maybe 2 inches.

False Perculas dont seem to differ in sive too much. My male has gotten wider recently and he scared me. For some reason I thought he might be pulling a clarkii on me and change to female with an existing female already there. I found out the little bugger has been stuffing himself with copepods and such on the reef. Hes getting fat. A true man in my own image.

^^Agreed. The size difference isn't as pronounced--certainly not as much as maroon clownfish. In fact, when they first pair up, there may be no size difference. In even rarer circumstances, the male may even be larger initially (since the smaller one was more dominant, for whatever reason). I'd say that in my pair, the female is around 60-75% larger by mass, but the male I purchased was tiny to begin with.

Yours definitely sound like a pair. I'm actually quite unsure if mine are a pair or not. Bought them about 8 months ago, both about 1.75-2" in size. They established who is dominant but do not show the attachment of swimming or sleeping together. They do get together now and then but it isn't for any prolonged period and always sleep on opposite sides of the tank. She has been charging him a bit more lately and they're shaking fairly often. Are there any pairs that don't spend much time together? I have another pair of black o's about 1.5" each and they're all over each other so it makes me upset that these guys aren't that way.

Thanks for the replies.

Mine do seem like a pair more and more. Actually mine is a FOWLR and so without a nem its even more difficult to predict if they are together. I have heard that they won't tolerate eachother if they aren't mated in their nem?

Thanks again.

Not sure about them being mated or not. I can lock mine together into a small floating breeder w/o them fighting. They must have an open relationship or something.
