Skeleton recovery

Some of the tissue has receded from my Monitipora Ca., undoubtedly due to lack of tank maintenance. I have corrected the issues and it seems to have stopped.

Should I break off the skeleton where the tissue is gone or leave it and hope the tissue grows back over it?

Something similar happened to my Bubble coral, it died off totaly but I left the whole thing in the tank and it is coming back (after almost a year of it being 'dead') not the same, but it is similar.

I would leave it there but that is just my opinion.
