Skeptics, here's the proof that LED grows colorful SPS's

I
stephane first I just want to say your tank is beautiful.

If LED lighting manufacturers made their fixtures so that you could easily and cheaply replace the bulbs that would be a great thing. If you could just change out your LED bulbs once a year as easily and for the same price as changing your MH or T5 bulbs it would be a definite no brainer.
:)
Thanks for the compliment

As for easy change of bulb, It is the case with maxpsect all buld are easy to change by the owner without any soldering and very cheap to do 4.95$ a piece for semi led and you have around 30 piece do the math and yes it is a no brainer

Here're some progessive FTS:

this is a great thread... good info, and great results for anyone like myself comtemplating a change... glad i came across this thread :)

thanks you OP and rest!

Very nice....

I just want to point out that each picture is closer to the tank which helps them appear larger. Although it still looks like significant growth.

It doesn't matter if it looks larger or not, it's the growth and coloration that matters, which is very obvious if you compare the photos.

See page one for other close-up shots that I've been taking over a period of 1 year, I'll be posting more close-up shots later.

Impressive growth man!!!

great growth on the bottom green acro and purple table at the back
will look sweet when the stags at the back grow out, looks like you were smart and planned longterm with placement with those at the back.

Thanks Ryan :)

Yep that's exactly why I've put the stags at the back, because I knew they're fast grower and will soon races towards the water surface.

acrotrdco do you have any LE sps in there?

I want to see somebody who can get true color in say ATL incredible hulk, Tyree purple monster, Bali Blue/purple bonsai, Rommel Rainbow, Mystery pink acro, unique ssc

if you dont have any of these have you ran across anybody who has them with LED's well photographed?

love the growth in those pics, my only question is how you keep the birdsnest growth so slow with the other pieces growing so big. my birdsnest (under t5s) grew from a 3" frag to the size of a volleyball under that time frame.

I think it's the species, some grow faster, some grow slower.

I've another piece of birdnest that's growing like CRAZY.

It went from this in June 2010:

To this in Jan 2011, when I moved to the new 65G tank:

To this in April 2011 (just 3 months later) - when I had to remove the whole colony because it's out-growing everything around it and had to frag it and give it out to friends.

I've actually done some calculations on the amount of Ca/Carbonate I was dosing before and after removing this colony, it's actually absorbing approximately 60/40ml KH/Ca (saturated solution) per DAY! :eek2:

Time for an update - I don't want to post the whole thing again, so here's a simplified version:

excellent job--- I could never ever get what I was looking for in terms of LED's and sps.

Thus my change back to established technology.

Nice growth shots! That is pretty impressive growth. Sorry if this has already been asked but what do you use to supplement Ca and dKH? Do you mind giving a quick equipment breakdown?

I'm using dosing pumps to dose my daily Ca/KH - I'm using Kent Turbo Calcium (CaCl2) and Arm'n'Hammer Baking Soda (Sodium Bicarbonate) as my Ca/KH additive, using saturated solution for KH and adding 12 tablespoons CaCl2 to 1.7L (about half a gallon) RO/DI water.

You could refer to my build thread for equipments used :)
