Skimmer Broke :(

so my HOB bakpak skimmer broke..
but its actually kind of a good thing because now I CAN BUY A NEW ONE!!
i wasn't really happy with the performance of my bakpak and was planning on replacing it later.
so on to the bizzness, i am looking for a very strang protien skimmer for a 20 gallon.
most things don't bother me but, micro bubbles REALLY DO.
thx for any suggestions!

Reef Octopus makes good HOB skimmers.

If you have a sump to put one in, it'll open up alot of options.

sorry to here about your skimmer.

Are you looking for new or used?
i could do either one but if it's an uncommon skimmer i might have trouble finding it used.

@MCCOOL
no i don't have a sump and unfortunately drilling is out of the option.

i have about 200 to spend and 250 is as high as i can afford.
also surface skimming for me is a big one.

surface skimming and micro bubbles are the only thing i care about.
i was planning on buying something bigger than i need so (hopefully) performance will not be an issue.

I don't use a skimmer and haven't in over 7 years or so on my 55. (no sump either)

You may want to do a search on skimmerless tanks...

Drs Fosters and Smith is having a sale on the Eshopps skimmer. I have this HOB version and very happy with its performance. Here's the link www.liveaquria.com
the sale is great but, have you had any problems with overflow or pump problems.

thx for the advice and i actually thought about it when i started my tank.
but, then i realized how lazy i really am....

can anyone tell me how to add a poll? (if i can)
hopefully that will get me a single product that people like the most.
right now i have too many suggestions to chose one.

Poll I believe you have to start from the very first post of a thread. Haven't done one here yet, but that is how other forums seem to work that I have been on.

I'm with Harbour.

200$ for a tube that makes air bubbles is ridiculous. I could finish my lights with 200$ or put more corals in my tank or build a calcium reactor or etc........

Ditch the skimmer and get yourself a sump. You'll end up having money leftover to spend on other things, more water volume, and the option of running some natural filtration which is more reliable IMO.

Deltec all the way if you're looking for an HOB skimmer - they come around used quite often - even new they are under $300.

i don't have room for a sump because I'm forced (my mom) to use a cabinet to hold my tank .
i also don't have an RO/DI system so, i get my water from my LFS.

I would use that money for a RO/DI then or atleast the RO portion.

And don't worry about not having one, I don't have one either and I use filtered tap water to top-off, shame on me, lol. But I plan on buying one also within the next few months and I use natural sea water for water changes so that's why I'm currently able to get away with tap water.

I'm sure mom would also like a reverse osmosis system for drinking water too.
