Skimmer Cup overflowing

yesterday i set up my new Reef Octopus BH-2000, it was running fine until silly me decided to mess with the collection cup height! It started bubbling up to the top of the cylinder thing in the collection cup, and thus created a lot of water. Anyone know why? i thought you could freely adjust the cup as you please without having to go through this trouble. TIA!

First, it will take a week or two for the skimmer to break in. Second, you need to tune the skimmer to your needs, more or less flow/skimmate depending on your tank setup. Read the instructions that came with it.

I have the BH-100 and I could never really get it to work properly. Most the time the outlet area wants to overflow. I could never get much skim either. I had one overflow, which luckily I was home for and started hearing water.

I did find out, with my skimmer at least, that the skimmer cup works best a little more than half way for my bio-load. Any more I get a cup full of water. I try and keep the bubbles at about half way up the riser tube in the collection cup.

I hope yours works better, it is a different model. Mine never did come with instructions. If you have any other questions, email Jeremy at Coralvue. He is always prompt in returning my emails.

okay, i fixed it, i have a really small bioload, 2 fish that eat maybe 4-6 mysis shrimp, and 1 clown that eats the same. fairly small i think. I have the bubbles up half way through the cylinder, but instead of a nice foam head, there's large bubbles at the top. Hope it subsides as it breaks in.

I only get a foam head when it wants to spill into the collection cup. I have a 28 gallon also with 3 fish too, so we are pretty much the same. Good luck with yours.
