Skimmer / Filtration while adding reef additives

Should I be turning off my skimmer or anything while adding phytoplankton or any other reef solution? I am sure my skimmer is doing it's job, but I've had to empty it about twice a week. Just seems like maybe some of the solutions or food may be wasted.

turn off the skimmer and chemical media for phyto and other stuff the label recommends to turn off

I did not know this! thank you RC!

^hey it cool that why we are here. also the reason behind this is as mangelo said it will remove food before can be absorbed by animals

I feed the coral the phyto every other day. The bottle says I can leave on all filtration as normal. It just doesn't seem right to me.

What do you mean by removing chemical filtration? Surely I'm not going to reach into my canister filter and pull out the carbon and whatever.

What are you using because my marine snow says to turn off skimmer and chemical media? Also i understand your situation so don't remove it then, but clean/change it often because by now it should have absorbed to it's max

I turn it off for feedings, for and hour or less, But not for any other additives.

I agree but some additives require you to do this too like chemi-pure for cyano
