External/recirculating is far more efficient. There are many threads on here on the pros and cons. Plus the only space taken up in the sump is for the pump.

There's been nothing to prove the recirculating type is more efficient. There are good theories though which make sense. I personally like the recirc types but also prefer using them in sump still as the potential to create a foaming volcano with any skimmer is very real even with failsafes.

Sorry didn't clarify. That is a hot debate. I meant they are more efficient since they take up no sump space and the actual pump isn't under water. Therefore there is little heat transfer and better pump life. Many people use a 5 gallon bucket and a float switch as a collection cup/insurance policy in the event of a volcano.
 
That should rock it pretty good. But with that much budget you may want to reach out to slief on here and talk about the royal exclusive bubble kings.
