Furthermore, I would remove a wet/dry on any such system and include rock (either liverock or "dead" rock) and MAYBE a sandbed. Introduce pods and worms.
I'm just speaking about it as a temporary holding system. I mean they may be in there for 2 months or so. But this is not a long term solution. I would of course do some frequent water changes.
It would depend on how many fish in how much space. Like was said, you have to watch for oxygen deprivation. Skimmers really help to keep up oxygen concentration. Buying a large skimmer may not be worth it if you don't have it already. I would rather go through a couple extra buckets of salt for $45 than to spend $300 on a new skimmer.
