Skimmer for Fish only?

Absolutely... a low(er) salinity can have an impact on performance, but overall you'd definitely want one, especially w/ big fish. JMO

IME I would run a skimmer on a FO or FOWLR.

Furthermore, I would remove a wet/dry on any such system and include rock (either liverock or "dead" rock) and MAYBE a sandbed. Introduce pods and worms.

I'm just speaking about it as a temporary holding system. I mean they may be in there for 2 months or so. But this is not a long term solution. I would of course do some frequent water changes.

But you guys still think, yes, skim?

skim. yes. keep water saturated with oxygen.

fish can succumb to oxygen starvation in a holding vat rather quickly.

if you don't skim you'll need to run powerheads for sure!

It would depend on how many fish in how much space. Like was said, you have to watch for oxygen deprivation. Skimmers really help to keep up oxygen concentration. Buying a large skimmer may not be worth it if you don't have it already. I would rather go through a couple extra buckets of salt for $45 than to spend $300 on a new skimmer.

I've still got my ASM. I'm trying to figure out how to put it in the tub with all the fish and not have them get sucked into the venturi.

Moving day is gonna be a nightmare.
