Skimmer gone wild

And dumped the whole cup full of skimmage back into my tank ... yike!!! nitrate went crazy. Zoanthids love it but my sps is not happy.

Same thing happened to me last week, except it was only a half of cup. My ATO float value failed and dumped 2 gallons of fresh water in my sump. The higher water level filled up my skimmer cup. Luckily, everything is ok and I learned a ton about float valves. Its very important to know if your float valve is on or off when opened or closed!!

I have three recirculating pumps on my skimmer, I was using only two pumps and decided to turn on the third. The skimmer was fine for couple of hours and I though every thing was adjusted and dialed in but overnight it went crazy. I will have to do a big water change soon.

I haven't done a water change since I took my biopellets offline 2 months ago. I've been trying to get my water a little 'dirty', but my nitrates are still 0, even after my skimmer cup issue and heavy feeding. My zoas are looking much better now. I am still undecided when my next water change will be?!?!

I always do water changes and the theory is to remove/dilute the bad something from my tank and add good something back into the tank scientifically speaking :D
