Skimmer help needed

Hello!

I am relatively new to the hobby. I have an established tank with live rock and three damsels. My tank is a 75 gallon tanks with an older "Sealife - Model 60 Wet/dry" filter. The tank currently has live rock with much green plant life. The fish have been in the tank for 9 months. I have recently added a "Maxi-Jet 1200" power head as well.

I do not have skimmer for my tank and I guess I need one. My filter systems calls for an older Sealife skimmer (HV75).

Can someone help me with a comperable skimmer or recommendation for size of skimmer??? My wet/dry filter is not very large and I do not have enough room to mount a larger skimmer on back of tank (clearance issue with wall)

Thanks!

Welcome to Reef Central (You'll have to wait for the "official high-falutin" welcome)

I'm not sure about the wet-dry filter. They're nitrate factories which are a big no-no on reef tanks (but not so bad on FOWLR [fish only with live rock]). You might look at turning it into a regular old sump and depending on the room, look at a ASM mini, Aqua C Remora or Urchin,or a hang on Deltec (depending upon the depth of your pockets).

If you have bioballs in your wet/dry, toss them in favor of more live rock (rubble).

I am relatively new to this hobby as well, but these friendly people in here have shown me that you cannot over-skim your tank.

I'd just shop for a skimmer that fits your tank, and when you have some choices picked out, ask about them...

Look at ASM, Euroreef, and of course Deltec.... there are others that will work according to whatever your budget may be.
