Skimmer placement in sump

I can only fit a small sump under my tank. The first chamber only allows for a skimmer with a small footprint and it's not doing a great job. Would it be ok for me to move the live rock from the center section, put it in the center section and put a bigger skimmer in this larger middle section?

There is no perfect sump. Do what you feel works best. Only issue I can see is if some rubble got to the skimmer and jammed it but other than that go for it. Make sure the skimmer is pulling skim mate

I just did this with my HOB CPR refugium and Hydor nano skimmer. It pulled out a good deal of muck yesterday, but I assume that was because of the mess that was kicked up.

I would presume the greater volume of water passing through the skimmer would be more import than its location.

I have seen quite a few set ups where the skimmer is in various chambers. I would say go with a better skimmer and just change the placement of everything.
