Skimmer Q&A Thread

that thing is like a 5 gallon bucket. .

lol thats exactly wat i tell everybody.i might beable to empty the sump and tilt it up on its side but that be the only way i could get it out other wise im up a creek.ive been lookin into the new super reef octo 2000 cone skimmer, wat are your thoughts on that?

well cone to cylinder can go on all day. But the SRO xp 2000 I think would still be too big. but the 2000 int would be better. THe int model has a smaller neck. the cone has a larger neck and I think the SRO 1000 or 2000 would be a better fit. good skimmers.

ok i think ive got it narrowed down to either the bm nac7 or the eshopps psk150.what you think

im building a 57g rimless with a 20L as a sump. can you guys recommend me some skimmers that will be sufficient for this system? would like to spend less than $200 if possible and must fit in the sump. thanks.

MOJO Im setting up a 60 gallon mostly lps tank. I have been looking at the BK mini 160 or the vertex alpha 170 since you have used both what one would you recommend? Thanks in advance!

I would go with the 150 over the 110 first off.

as far as feeding it off the drain, it can work for some but it is not suggested that you do this. It is not always constant. it can sometimes cause surging and overflowing. I would use a constant feed pump something like a maxijet 400 or 600 would work well.

Thanks a ton. I was on the fence about going with the 150 over the 110 because I have the height available to fit it so your recommendation pushed me over the edge.

OMFG:furious:.Well i got my msx300 out from under my tank and i tell yah it was like squeezin an elephant through a garden hose,i dnt kno how i didnt break it or anything else!.I was climbin over my tank standin on my tank an sump, i did everything but tip the tank over:uzi:.but i finally got it out and will be ordering the nac7 tommorow(the wifey juss dont kno it yet:D)so thanks mojo and everybody else for the info..

bigrig, where are the picture - you take all the fun out of it :)

LOL i was flyin solo during this operation so i didnt have anyone to take pics but it would deffinatly of been a sight as i was in my underware(shorts kept gettin in the tank)during this whole procedure:D

Mojo I have about 70gals of water and no skimmer:hmm3:

I am looking for a skimmer and found a used 2010 Octopus NWB 110 For $110 with the wedge pipe perfect for my price range I would like a nac6 but cant find them used ever.

Will this skimmer work with my water volume? Should I hold off for a month and save for the gate valve, pin wheel, and better venturi?

How does this skimmer par up in your book?

One more skimmer question before I order.

How does the Eshopps S-150 compare to the SRO XP2000 external? 100g heavily stocked SPS tank.

They have made great improvements to this model from when it first came out years ago. Nice bang for buck for your size tank. This is about where you would start in the skimmer world in my opinion. Not much worth buying less than this.

The Eshopps does not even come close. The pump puts out maybe a third the performance the bb2000 does.

XP 2000 is closer to an ATB 840 than a eshopps.

I posted a couple days ago and have just a few more ?. Mojo, thank you so much for your time. I like the idea of the octopus extreme 160. Is there any advantage to getting the 200 for a 75 sps tank? And how well will it outdo my current asm g1x? Since I have the asm g1x is it really that much better? Thanks again.

will it skimmer better? a little but I would not get the octo x 160 with the old psk 2500 pump I would get the newer one with the psk600 pump.

the g1x uses the sedra 3500 pump. Not bad but it will not pull much air but it does do a good job. on a 75g I think you are just fine staying with the g1x. if you are set on a new toy then the octo x 160xs would be a good choice.
