Skimmer Q&A Thread

The Eshopps does not even come close. The pump puts out maybe a third the performance the bb2000 does.

XP 2000 is closer to an ATB 840 than a eshopps.

would an ATB 840 or K2 be too much for a 100g tank?

And if not, which of those two do you like better?

OK Sports fans, I am looking for an efficient skimmer for the 120. Wont be a lot of SPS and space shouldn't be a big issue. It will be in the living room so not sounding like a snake on a hot griddle would be good.

Thanks

Ok so you talk to this person and they say to get this skimmer then you talk to someone else and they say get that skimmer. I don't know what to do. I thought reading some thread would help, well it didn't just gave me more to choose from. I need two skimmers for 120 gal tanks with 50-55 gal sumps. One will be a reef tank and one will be a FO tank. I will not have may sps, Zoa's are my favorite but love anything that moves with a medium fish load. The FO tank will be medium to heavy load. Also look for the most bang for the buck. Octopus, coralife, asm, swc? Used is ok, and I would like to stay under
$300.00 Oh noise is a factor both tanks will be in the living room with the tv in between the two tanks. Foot print and clearance is not a problem. A;so looking for something that uses low watts. Thanks in advance for your help!

Alright if I take the g1x and put it on the 75, that leaves me with one ? I have a 29 gallon display tank with a 30 gallon sump. What would be a good skimmer to put on that?

jason sent you a pm,

JG the atb would be better, no rotational issues from pump

Hey Grim, Well depending on what you want to spend.
The atb 840 2.5, the swc 160 cone, the Super reef octopus 2000 int, and the new octo x tremes with the new sicce syncra pumps would work well.

probably the 160 xs model i believe.

all in all they will pull similar air and water throughput. The sro pulling the most air. about double of the group but requires low water level to run it. the atb will run well in about 7 inches and the swc and octo x will run well from 7 to 9 so keep that in mind with your sump. unless you want to builda stand to set it on. Shoot me a pm if you have any other questions.

you could get a SWC bmk 150 and a swc 160 for the reef. Bm nac 6 and 7, sro 2000. Same really as grims reply.

I would probably go with a BM nac 3, the swc 120 cone or the eshopps 75

the nac 3 and 120 cone use the same pump.

Hey Mojo,

You ever hear of an Orca skimmer? Not the reeflow, this one

I ended up with it when I bought the guy's starphire tank as a gimmie. Uses a Sicce pump.

I'm planning out my 120g mixed reef tank. Medium- slightly large bio load. Sps. Maybe a clam. Any suggestions? I see that octopus/swc are pretty popular.

Cool. I am actually not going to use it but I wanted to find out if they were any good before I sell it. My crippled butt has too hard a time reaching the gate valve to make adjustments so the hokey tube you twist actually works better for me. Up to my ears with skimmers and don't want to use any of them, also have an EV 120 and a Euroreef collecting dust. Going to flood the local skimmer market :D I know what they are, just wasn't sure about this beast. Thanks.

yea bang for the buck the swx 160 cone, and BM NAC 7 ae pretty good. The next step up would be the SRO 2000 then the ATB 840 and the bk mini 160.

another would be the Vertex in 180 too

I feel really bad to keep coming back, but you all save my bank account. Some people use accountants, I use you guys... Anyway, I found a good deal on a Kent marine nautilus te? Could this be used on my 29 with 30 sump? If so, what pump should I get to go with it? It's only 20$, but I dont need another 20$ pos. Thanks guys.

well I would say a fair price for that recirc model depending on condition would be around $250 to 300.

I'd do good to get 150 for it in the Denver market. I got the oceanic tech 120 which is 3 sided starphire with stand for 500. Stuff is really cheap here.
