Skimmer Q&A Thread

not really the pump being internal in the nac7 helps it for being quiet.

Both are not loud but the nac 7 is more quiet.

My Sicce 2500 black wire sheath is pulling away from the body of the pump.
Which pump should I get?
The skimmer is a I-Tech 200 comes with either a Sicce or tunze Hydrofoamer.
I was thinking about a BB 2000, or a ATB Syncra or the Tunze Hydrofoamer.
Thanks in advance Mojo

Tinkering with an old HOB. Its a CNC 125. Stock pump PSK 2500, and I cant get the thing to shut up =)....

I also own a MSX200(same pump). I own 3- PSK2500, 1 is now shot, with magnets in bad shape. Other 2 pumps are fine.

My MSX is silent to me. I've run both mesh and pinwheels in both skimmers. Now I'm running black or white pinwheels in both(start up issues with mesh).

The CNC has its own volute which needs to stay with the pump, and has limited space to mod. PSK2500 has a female slip/male thread intake, in which the female slip size IS NEEDED. Output "could" be modded for the bubble diffuser.

Does anyone here own both the 2500 and the 600? To know if I can switch the pump? I need the same size of the female slip intake of the 2500(without volute) to make this work, barring the pump body being too different.

Thanks.

mojo u ever get to play with ur in100 ? lovin the atb mini airstar on mine, btw the vertex pump is the same as a gen x and a sedra. if i can find a volute from a sedra 3500 i think i want to try it out over the vertex volute

I am new to the hobby and have a 65gl tank. I am looking for a quality skimmer, but seams its hard to find something that is made for smaller tanks, any suggestions?

The tunze is the way to go.

the output is different the 2500 is female and the 600 is male the inputs are not interchangable on the ones i had anyways

I have a 75 gallon tank that is currently FOWLR but will soon be a mixed reef. I have been running a sump with a SWC 160 Cone and it has been working well so far. Unfortunately it seems that the bottom area of my stand is unable to support the weight of the sump. For that reason I recently decided to break down my sump. Now I may be in the market for a good hang on back skimmer for this tank. Bio load is probably medium to high. I see lots of recommendations for the Deltec MCE600. Would that be the best HOB skimmer for this tank? Or would you recommend another skimmer? I have also checked out the HOB skimmers from Deltec, Reef Octopus, SWC, and others. The price of the skimmer doesn't really mater. I am more concerned with getting a quality skimmer that can handle the bio load of my tank then what it costs. I appreciate any thoughts and recommendations. Thanks.

Hey mojo, another question. which one would work best, a Royal Exclusiv Alpha 200
Cone Protein Skimmer With a Red Dragon Pump or the ATB 840 V2.0 Cone Skimmer With Sicce Syncra Pump? It's going to be on a 125g heavily stocked tank

Mojo, can you recommend the best sized ATB skimmer for a 150 gallon for both internal and external? Not sure which route I'm going yet. Thanks.

I would take a look at this SRO

http://www.aquacave.com/super-reef-octopus-brlx-1000s-hang-on-backbr-protein-skimmer-2993.html

or try to find a warner mqarine H2.

The aquamaxx h1 will work too being it is fish only. (marine depot)

the atb would work better than the 200 on that tank IMO. The alpha 170 would be the model you would want if you wanted to go that route. I would get the ATB but thats just me. Both would work well.

the atb elegance 200 or 200 pro. the 200 is internal and the 200 pro is internal or external.

Thanks Mojo, based on the post above, is the elegance 200 pro much better than the ATB 840? If so, how much do those go for? I would rather get that one if it's better considering it can be ran internal or external.

Mojo-

I think you missed this question. I am curious to see your answer...

I have a heavily stocked 180g reef tank...lots of large fish.
I have been running the SWC 250 Extreme (I think that is the model...got it from marine solutions when they came out--had to send the pumps back for a few modifications)...

it has 2 sicce 2500 pumps...using pinwheel impellers.
The pumps are a pain ....they constantly stop....and the situation is not improving. I think my sicces (at least 1 of them) is dying.

I have not been following skimmers since i bought this last one at least 3 years ago....

so..here are my questions:
1)do you suggest it is time for a new one due to advances???-if yes, which skimmer do you suggest...best bang for the buck
2)--or should i get a new pump..do i have options for pumps..or do i have to get another sicce???

thanks.....
