Thanks for that (: My tank would be around 210gallons, sump and all included. So would you recommend them?

i was really happy with the skimmer and after i get done fiddling with my WM k2 which i also know is too big for my system i will be going to a smaller skimz, i dont trhink you would have any issue with the sm202 on a stocked 210g system, the one benifit to me on a recirc is you can dial the feed more for a larger system to process more water, and these skimmers are built like tanks which is a bonus for me, i wont buy a skimmer thats has a thin cheap body, thats my personaly prefferance, and the pump used on the skimz i can imagine you will start to see other companies using them as well,

Mojo great thread. I am currenty redoning my 240 FOWR. I have a 55gal sump. I am looking to go mixed reef and what would be the best skimmer for what I have going on. I am very lightly stocked now but as I get going with the sps, lps and more fish that will change. Just want to buy one great skimmer that will last me quite a while. Thanks

MoJo' what are the differences in these two skimmers? They are both rated for 400 gallons, one is $750 and the other $550? Which is better and why? Thanks a lot!!

Reef Octopus SUPER SRO 5000INT In-Sump Protein Skimmer $550

Reef octopus Extreme XS 350 protein skimmer $750

stang the extreme using so many pumps would be the draw back for me, id go with the sro 5000int using one pump and i do believe it use's less electric then the 3 sicce's and 3 pumps together are about the same air pull as the one bubble blaster pump

Ok, things have changed since the last time I asked and I'm down sizing. I think I'm going to be getting a custom cad light's aquarium that will be about a 25G cube (just like the 50g artisan, but half the volume) 20-25 gallon. I'll build a small cube sump for it as well for the skimmer. I was going to replace my eshopps psk 150 on my 75G and I still want to do that but I'm going to be downsizing in the relativley near future. Do you think that a bubble magus nac 6 would be a good size to replace the e-shopps with and then use on the 25g? It would be nice to have an overkill skimmer :P If not any other suggestions are appreciated.

its too big to work effectively. The nac 3or 3.5 would be much better

For a240 take a look at the SRO 5000 xp, Hurricone cat 2, Octo XS 250. SWC 230. The best would probably be the ATB 1050A and the BK sm 250. But you will pay more for them. But they are all great performing units.

The 350 is a bigger skimmer as well. you cannot go by factory ratings alone. With the 3 sicce syncra pumps compared to the one BB 5000 pump you will get a little more air and water draw on the larger body of the xs 350.

Is the xs 350 worth the $200 extra?

I think in the end, because the 5000int isn't as bulky as the 350....I will go with the 5000. Having the 3 pumps in there will be a little PITA...with all those extra wires.

The stock pump on my precision marine RL150 is going bad. Does anyone know what I can replace it with that isn't extremely expensive to get better performance?

I believe they are teh same as the aquamedic ocean runners. Also the same as the octo turbine pumps. The octo pumps are pretty cheap. I would look there for a cheap replacement. Ot go with the PSk 600 setup from marine depot. You will have to figure out how to mount it though.

If this truly is the Skimmer Q&A Thread, I have 2 questions;
1) Is the ASM G2 'too much' skimmer for a 75 gallon light-medium stocked tank?
2) Is $175 a good price for a used skimmer?

First SW fish tank ever (don't even fully understand how the skimmer works yet - I can only read so many forums per night :crazy1:). Tank isn't even set up yet, it's still in the building phases. I'd like to keep several corals, and 4 specific fish. I'm building a 30g sump/refugium for it. I'd like to get this skimmer if it's a good product and price for my needs.

What do you think?? Any other variables you need to know to answer this? Thanks.

THe asm g2 is not too much skimmer for a 75 it will work just fine.

is a $175 too much for a used a skimmer .... No, too much for a a asm g2 used, yes. THat is a pretty open ended question.

Maybe I should just start saving up for another skimmer instead? A bubble magus nac7 would be an upgrade right?

Thanks again for everyone's contributions to this thread.

I'm in the process of an upgrade, which will have 375 gallons of display between 2 tanks as well as another 100 gallons in sump gallonage. I tend to stock fish pretty heavily and to feed a lot. I will be running a nitrate pellet reactor as well.

The skimmers I'm looking at:

SRO 5000 INT (doesn't seem to be a lot of reason to go with the cone or the external model...or is there)

Reef Orca 250

Alpha cone 250

Obviously the third option is a lot more. Is there any other skimmer in the 500-900 range you'd recommend?

thanks in advance

Super Reef Octopus XP-5000 External Cone Protein Skimmer
unless your stuck with running a internal, once you take sand and rock displacement away imagine would be less twv, the orca is a beast also, im not a fan of the alpha line, also the ATB 1050 Cone Protein Skimmer wouldnt be a bad choice

i have a 16G sump and i feel like my bubble magnus nac3 doesnt accomplish much,

but im dealing with limited space and yet to find a skimmer to replace mine

I have a 4 chamber sump i can put it in chamber one or two

fist chamber is 8"x6.5"

Second chamber is 8"x5"

Any suggestions?
