Skimmer Q&A Thread

What is wrong with the SWC mini HOT skimmer? I have only been able to find good reviews on it. I have read about the Reef octopus HOB skimmers and most people have to mod them to make them work properly.

I'm personally not a fan of SWC and all I will say. But you're free to support them.

I just picked up a BM NAC5e for my 34g solana. Wondering if I should worry about any drawbacks to such a large skimmer on such a small tank (ie. No nutrients) Or if I will be ok?

How heavily stocked will you be? I don't think you'll have an issue. Great skimmer and one of my favorite HOB's for noise and performance. I ran it for a while on my 55g.

Skimmer for a 180 gallon FOWLR tank?

Skimmer for a 180 gallon FOWLR tank?

I know this has come up 100 times over the years, but technology changes like everyday. I need a very quiet skimmer for a 180 with med. load, which one?

Thanks,

The best skimmer is Super Reef Octopus 3000 Exteral protein skimmer with a Bubble Blaster Hy 3000 pump ,buy it and you will have a real protein skimmer.

I would agree that the SRO 3000 series all together is a great fit for a 180. But I don't think it would be considered the quietest in it's class. It's not really loud but I wouldn't say it's very quite either.

Best nano skimmer under $150. Looking for suggestions and input.

Bubble magus nac3
Eshopps psk75
Asm mini g
Or ?

Keep the $150 in mind.

I don't have any experience with the avast but if I remember right they use the sicce600 or 1000 which is a good Skimmer pump and would do good on the 75 but I'm a really big fan of the SRO series and the bubbleblaster pumps. You can get an avast or octopus brand neck cleaner for it too. If you need a Sump saver model though I would go with the avast. The SRO1000SSS doesn't have the best design for outlet and pump placement. If you can get the SRO1000-int I would go with that model.

the avast is really too large for a 75 in my opinion. 90g minimum. The 1000 sro is ok but the jns sk2 and sea side aquatics cs1 are really good. the sro 2000 int would be the sro I would go with. And with the new pinwheel design they are really quiet now too.

Hello everyone one i just upgraded to a 120 gal on Saturday and hooked up my new swc 180. My question is i see most people run it with the air wide open. I have the finest bubbles when my air is closed. Does this make any sense?

SRO XP 2000 internal or SRO 2000 internal for 150g med bio load tank? I was looking at the Diablo 2500 but not so sure about that one now. SRO 3000 might be an option too, just have to find out if it will fit sump. Which one for 150g med bioload would you choose? Thanks!

Currently have a WM K2 on my 200 gallon heavily stocked mixed reef with 75 gallon sump. Not sure if the K2 is keeping up enough with my bio load and was wondering if you could make recommendation for a new skimmer. SRO3000 and XS250 I've heard good things about, either of those be good option? Any other suggestions? Thanks.

I need suggestions for my 60 gallons reef tank. The skimmer will be in a 20 gallons sump. I'm in need of a mid-class skimmer.

I have an Aqua Medic turboflotor 500 in a 30 gallon. It will exceed that gallon rating. It goes for about 129.00
If you want to go bigger there's the turboflotor 1000.
As far as performance it skimmer great and is very consistent.
You can not hear it at all.

What would be best for a 75 gallon with Eshopps RS200 sump with a media bio load?

I keep looking at a Reef Octopus NW-150.

Price below $250 and quiet are the two most important categories.

Thanks.

Need help to determine if a skimmer upgrade is necessary. The DT (mixed reef) is 265g, sump is 65g, fuge is 55g. I am using an ASM G3 and it works great, and is emptied/cleaned every 4-5 days. Water parameters seem to be perfect and water is crystal clear. I know that technically the G3 is too small but how do I know if it is truely too small. Tank has been up for 3+ years with mainly soft corals but I plan to add SPS corals and am trying to plan accordingly. I have been looking to upgrade to something like a SRO5000INT but don't want to make the investment if it is not necessary and won't be of much benefit. Do I go with the philosophy of if it's not broke don't fix it? What should I be looking at to determine if the upgrade is necessary? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Looking for a skimmer for my 180g w/ 40b sump. Debating on an SRO 3000 int, a Skimz SM201 or a Warner Marine MF201. Which would you choose for a heavily stocked 180g?
