Skimmer Q&A Thread

Hi,
I was in the market for a SRO-1000Int when my LFS offered me a SeaSide Aquatics CS1 with Sicce pump for a great price. My tank will be a 90g with 29g sump. Light bioload and predominantly SPS. I care about how quiet it is and small size as my sump is getting crowded. Any advice on which option to take? Thanks!

Hey, thanks for the feedback. But now I have two conflicting statements. Mojo indicates the SRO is ok but the SSA CS1 is really good.

the avast is really too large for a 75 in my opinion. 90g minimum. The 1000 sro is ok but the jns sk2 and sea side aquatics cs1 are really good. the sro 2000 int would be the sro I would go with. And with the new pinwheel design they are really quiet now too.

Mojo~

And then from RGibson: Get the SRO your LFS is just trying to get read of a not so good skimmer.

Anyone else have some information?

Sea side is a good skimmer. but that probably isnt big enough for your tank. you will need the Sea side aquatics cs 2 or a SRO 2000INT.... Just my 2 cents.

Hi RC,
I have a question, because I want to help my friend... He has a 90g tank and we are trying to look for a good skimmer... We found 2 (is used because he dont have the $ for a new one)... The first one is the bubble magus BM-NAC6 and the VERTEX IN-250...
Just want to know wich one is a better option or any suggestion for a budget of $200...
THANKS!!!

Hey I have a 65g tank with 20L sump. I am looking into purchasing the Reef Octopus 4 protein skimmer. Is that a good idea? Any other suggestions?

Hi again,
Well my friend bought the Reef Octopus NW-150-6530B (I think is known by NWB 150) for his 90g tank... I want to know if is a good skimmer for his tank and what is the better or the recommended depth for better skim?
Thanks

Mojo (or anyone) - what online vendors carry the Seaside Aquatics skimmers? I found a place, Affordable Aquatic Supplies, that carries it but I've never heard of them and I can't find any reviews of the place.

I was planning on the Avast CS1 for my new build (75g, 23g sump) but after your advice to somebody else with a similar setup a few posts back I guess I will go with the Seaside Aquatics CS1.

Jeff Socaltropicalfish.com carries the skimmer they're a LFS with about every piece of equipment you could imagine on the shelf and they have a website to sell and ship. They are in So Cal

i have a bubble magnus nac 6, it isnt creating good stiff foam, im having problems dialling it in. when i do reach the correct level and its producing foam its very slow and takes all day just for a tiny bit to go over into the cup. then when i close the cabinet door the foam dies down . any 1 help????

I am currently running a Warner Marine K2 on my 90 gallon display/20 sump system. I have two questions..

Will the Sicce PSK600/1000 be a good replacement pump for the PSK 2500? It works fine but there are some start up issues (not terrible) and it's a bit loud for my (otherwise pretty close to silent) setup.

Second, is the skimmer too large for my tank, and if so, will my money be better spent on a smaller skimmer that uses a pump that's more quiet (Tunze Hydrofoamer, etc)

Thanks in advance...

I have replaced my Sicce 2500 with a tunze 9420 it is a good replacement pump. I would look into the Synra line they are more affordable.

jumping on board with jeffesaurusrex on information about the CS1... i just ordered one from Salt Supply for a 70C reef tank. what do you think about the skimmer?

Advise and help please SRO 3000e very very wet

Advise and help please SRO 3000e very very wet

I am curing about 350lbs of rock in a 100 gal. rubber made tub. Thought I would test my external skimmer. I bought it from fellow RC reefer and it came to me clean. I know nothing about a skimmer. There are very very wet bubbles coming all the way up the cone and into the cup lifting the top off the cup and very quickly filling the cup with water. I can not slow it down or stop it. Without the Bubble Blaster on the water is about 3 - 4 inches from the top of the cone prior to the cup. Is it just clean and needing to slime over or am I doing something wrong? There is only about 85 gals. in the tub with the rock. Is this too small? The rock is a combination of old dry rock from several different aquariums and Micro rock. Appreciate any help, advise or corrections. --Eddie
