Skimmer Q&A Thread

A balanced 8" with about 1000 lph of air will work for you. If I remember correctly the g3 is a 6"with the sedra 5000 and i'm sure it worked well on your 120. My favorite 8"skimmers are atb840v2, aquamaxx cone 3, em300, sea side aquatics cs2 or es2. All of these use sicce pumps and every one of these will be a good choice.

Thanks Drae! Ill check those out!

how will i know when my skimmer has broken in? i guess im wondering when i will know that this is what i can expect from the new skimmer.

my am200 took a little more then 2 weeks to break in. Yours looks like it might be a little faster though. It's foaming up pretty good already.

i added a lil bit of the waste pulled from my euro. i think that did help it speed up a lil bit. im sure its still not working at full effectiveness, so i will wait on trying to decide on how it compares to my old skimmer.

it has a steady foam head at the top of the neck but never really pushes over the top. maybe its way to soon or my tank does not have alot of DOC but i hope that it gives me the kind of results that i see it give some other people.

Give it a week. You've only had it running for a couple days.

I'd keep the setting you have in your pics and dont touch it. You'll be fine!

what do you think is the better fit for me.

RLSS R6-I for 299.97
Aquamaxx em200 for $256 (but back ordered for a month)

Ill have to order tonight to get them prices..

90-100 gallons of actual water.. Heavy stocked

i like the rlss but i would rather be safe then sorry. there pump problems made me go the aquamaxx route. i can say that the em200 is nice and produces lots of small micro bubbles. if you are a gambler go for the rlss, im not. i have been burned before and dont care to again.

Is the Aquamaxx Cones Co2 to big for 85 gallon plus 40 breeder sump, (actual water in sump is aroudn 26 gallons). After rock n sand, its at probably 90-100)

On the website its rated up to 350 gallons, but that seems like a lot fora 6" skimmer.

Reef Octopus nwb110 and a Aqueon ProFlex Model 2 Sump

Hey Mojo!

My question is this, this sump has three chambers. (Intake, Refugium, and return area) If I place the skimmer in the last stage, will it chew up all the pods? Any ideas on a better way?
Thanks in advance!

I'm setting up a 210 mixed reef and have been looking at the Seaside Aquatics ES2 skimmer. Anyone have any experiences with this? I'm having a head time finding reviews on it.

Hello all,

I am in the planning stages for my tank. I have a 54 gallon column and will likely be adding a 20g custom sump.

I am planning on getting an Aquamaxx Ecomaxx EM100 for my tank, which I would like to eventually have some softies and LPS in. I am not going to get a lot of fish, as I really want to be able to do a lot with the coral.

First question, would the above be a suitable size for my tank+sump and the creatures I want to keep?

Would my other options of an Eshopps PSK-150 or a local deal for a barely used Coralife Super Skimmer 220 ($100) be better or just as good?

Can you recommend others in the under $225 price range that would suit my tank?

Thanks in advance!

I would recommend the EM100 because they have a better design, smoother neck transition and newer sicce pump.

The eshopps skimmer perform well but the earlier versions had unreliable pumps. If you get an eshopps then look for a gen 3 version. They come with the sk sicce pumps. I think doc fosters has them.

Stay away from seaclowns (oh I mean clone's) just my .02

happy reefing

Tivo
