Skimmer Q&A Thread

Have you been pretty happy with it? Pro's con's? How long have you been running it.

Well I am hoping it shows up soon. I don't think I made a bad desicion but we shall see. Sorry I didn't have more for you. I was also looking at the Skimz SM203 with the dc pump.

Ive been looking at aquamaxx and bubble magus and a few others. My ASM G3 has always worked great but I feel like the cone/new skimmer tech may be better... Its so hard to make a decision!

I recently purchased a Bubble blaster HY100 and outfitted it to my Berlin chamber. The problem I am having is that it doesn't seem to be pulling much air through the intake producing little bubbles in the chamber. The pump is connected straight to the chamber the pumps intake and the base of the chamber are roughly 4 inches below the water line. Anyone with similar pump have any advice or just a fellow reefer with some wisdom.

Thanks

Do you have the air intake line on the venturi pointed straight up? Sometimes that helps.

Just got my em200. I'm a lil confused cause the pump it came with is a syrnca 3.0 not a 2.0 that the item description states. It says shark 2.0 on one side and syrnca 3.0 on the other. Did they send me the wrong pump?

Nope, the Shark 2.0 is a rebranded Syncra 3.0. I think they did the numbering to match the model of the skimmer (Shark 2.0 for Cone 2, EM200, etc).

Hello,

Was wondering if I could get some help with choosing a skimmer? I will have about a ~90 gallon system give or take. The system will end up being heavily stocked.

I have narrowed it down to the ConeS 1, EM200, or the vertex 150.

Please help me choose a skimmer and/or recommend something that may be better suited for my tank.

Thanks!! =)

What size tank do you have and sump? I know you said about how many galons you got, just curious on the size.

I am also in this spot.. Marinedepot has 15% off an item as long as its able to be discounted..

I have a 85 gallon display, with a 40 breeder sump-( only bout 25 gallons of water in sump though). I figure after rock sand and such, I have about 90 gallons of water

The dimensions of the tank are: 36"x24"18"
The dimensions of the sump are: 30"x18"x16"

I just got off the phone with someone over at fragtastic and he said the aquamaxx are cheaply made and use thin plastics. I am glad I read this thread thoroughly!

What are you leaning towards?

The aquamaxx has cell cast acrylic,.. dude has no idea what hes talking about over there.

I don't know what to pick between the EM100, EM200, or the coneS 1 or 2.

Ya I was also considering the EM100 but I may be able to live with idle time coming from a bigger skimmer.

I too want to take advantage of the 15% sale, might be placing an order from them once I figure out which to go with.

Thats laughable! They are not cheaply made at all! The acrylic and joints are on par with any quality skimmer out there.

my comparisons come from owning;
bubble king
ATB
RO
Deltec
Tunze
SWC
Bermuda and several others

just got my em200 last night. i would not say it is cheaply made at all, but compared to the euro reef, i would say that the euro seams like a lil bit better quality. but in truth, the skimmer body will last forever as long as you dont damage it. i feel better about the aquamaxx over the euro because of the pump.

Lol, ya I think he was trying to hustle me and play me for a fool. As soon as he said that his credibility went out the door and I wanted to get off the phone. The question I asked was if he had any experience with the aquamaxx skimmers and how did they perform.

Thanks for the input I am glad they compare to the build quality of the ones you mentioned.

How big is your tank again? 120? I read it somewhere on this thread but I forgot.

How is your skimmer performing so far?

i have a 90 with 30 fuge. the skimmer is not in place yet because i have to build a platform for it to stand on. the euro needs 6 1/2 depth and the em200 needs around 8 1/2 or so. i have to re adjust the sump to get a couple inches depth. i plan on having it up soon. i will post pic and my thought when i do.
