I cut the glass to 9 in after doing some math it's a 90 gallon tank so I will need space for overflow
The best way to size a skimmer is to state your size of the DT and then ask people what they use on that size tank and start to research there. Try to set a realistic budget, look for a used one if you can.
hey mojo i have a aquamaxx cone 6 skimmer do you know of any issues with it as i just cannot find that sweet spot like i did with my Warner marine skimmer i am carbon dosing right now and its just never stable sometimes it pulls a lot of foam and then two days later i have to adjust it because its no longer pulling foam my tank is a 200 gal heavily stocked with a heavy bio load because my nitrates wont go down which they should wit such a large skimmer i think the pumps are to blame is there maybe a mod i could use or use diffrent pumps plz help as im at a loss thanks
That's a huge skimmer for a 200 gallon tank no matter how heavy the bio load is. A cone 5 with only 1 shark 5 pump on it would still be pretty big for that tank. My buddy had a cone 6 on a 400 gallon and it worked great. That skimmer isn't going to keep a stable foam head on a 200. Downsize to a cone 5...
so shouldn't it bring down my nitrates with the carbon dosing?

yes! So long as you have efficient skimming.
when you add carbon you are cultivating additional biomass with increased bacterial populations that absorb nitrate and phosphate. If you dont have good skimming then much of the NO3 and PO4 stays in the system.
or am i wrong?
Whats everyones recommendation on skimmer for a 350g / 75 gallon sump? Medium to heavy bioload.
I'd like a skimmer with pump inside for room, height doesn't matter. I've looked at:
SRO 5000SSS - 2400 l/h
SRO 6000SSS - 2400 l/h
Aquamaxx EM500 - just don't know much about these pumps like l/h
Aquamaxx EM600
SkimZ SM253 - 2400 l/h
I'm stuck and looking for individuals running any of these skimmers on 350-400 gallon tanks. Thanks for the help!
Net volume is 350gallons. Viewable from both sides so corals will be on both sides of rock and many of them. Mainly LPS but some SPS. Additionally I will have 15-20 fish with 5-6 tangs. It's a very long tank at 11 feet.
I want to do this right the first time with the skimmer. Thanks again!
