Skimmer Q&A Thread

IMO the 180 is overkill for an 80 gal system and that's why you're having issues building a foam head. Are you getting any sludge built up in the neck? I had a 160 on a similar volume system and struggled to get good performance unless I fed much mor than I liked. I had to sell it. Any one else?

I took it out of the sump today took it apart and cleaned it all out
It seams to be working a lot better now
Will see what it's like tomorrow

I just got a bubble king submainer 200 I've had it about a week it is over flowing and its pushing bubbles from the outlet. I looks like the pump is pushing too much rate but its the pump that came with it. Please help

What is the water level you running this skimmer in? I ran mine in 7-7.5" with no problems.

Bump
Anyone??

I'm not an expert with BK skimmers, but usually when a skimmer is overflowing like that, it's either something in the water (water conditioners, residue from the manufacturing process, epoxy, a filter sock (new), certain frozen foods, etc), there's a blockage in the air or water pipes, or it's too deep.

I would first make sure they sent you the correct pump (you said it seems like the pump is pushing too much water) and then look to the above.

If it's not overflowing like crazy, but fills the cup in a minute or more, then you might have to let the skimmer break in. Just keep it wide open and the water level should come down eventually.

Jumping from a 90 to a 180...SRO 3000 seems like a quality skimmer however I keep SPS so need a clean system, also I do not want to be short sighted in my spending. I would be willing to go up to 1k but only if the skimming ability truly warrants it. I welcome any input that would guide me to spending more money or why other skimmers are really that much better than the SRO 3000

i just upgraded to a 180 also,i run the sro sss3000int,from what i came from its impressive,no regrets.
the odor from the cup is unreal.i about puked when i cleaned the cup.
i have only sps,my tank never looked better

I am looking at skimmers for a heavy stocked 210 tank. Total set up 400 gal. What do you think of the Super Reef Octopus XP-5000 External Protein Skimmer?

mojo I have a new 125 with 40 gallon sump I own two skimmers

octopus nwb 150
vertex n100 with a Tunze Hydrofoamer Silence Pump 9410.040

which one would you run on the 125

Haven't seen Mojo on here in a while. I dont know if hes' sick, on extended vacation or has moved on.

Anyone know whats up?

Well I was dead set on an ATB 840v2 for my 120, but then I got a 150 instead... Will the 840 still be plenty of skimmer or should I swap it out for a SRO3000INT?

moved on?

I remember reading that he was going to take a break, he set up a nice 75 gallon tank then sold it and bought something small. New wife new life I presume.

The ATB will be fine for a 120 or 150 gallon tank. PS the SRO 3000 would be overkill for a 150 gallon tank.

i just bout a reef dynamic ins 135e for my 75 gal tank w 20 gall sump
did i go overkill or do u think this will b a good fit?
