Skimmer Q&A Thread

if you want new for 300 then the EM200 or just keep an eye out on the FS equip forums for something used

i'll pay more if need be. I would just like ti around that mark. what about a Bubble Magus curve 7.... or a SWC Xtreme 160 Protein Skimmer, it's 200 dollars and rated for a light biolad for 250, heavy for 125

The em200 is better than bubble magus and the swc. If you can't get Aquamaxx look into the jns cone2.

What kind of pumps are they running and how quiet are they, do you know?

They're running sicce shark pumps. Third best skimmer pumps behind the red dragon and askoll pumps imo. Half the cost of the higher end pumps but very good, proven skimmer pumps. Very silent also, they have the sicce syncra silent blocks on them.

what do u think of the deltec mce600 for my 30 gallon tank

I don't have any experience with the Deltec hob skimmers but Deltec as a manufacturer of skimmers is a great company. I'm not sure what pump they run but I do know that the mce400 has about 350lph of air and seems like it would be great for a 30-50 gallon tank so the 600 might be a little large for your tank. The design also looks to be a micro bubble solving design also with the baffles setup the way they are. I would like to try one someday.

The mce600 runs with an aquabee 2000/1 (aquacr@p) pump. I ran one on a 28 and it skimmed very well. I'm not a big fan of the aquabee. May start up issues after a while and they are a paint to clean. Skimmed great though as long as the pump ran.

Well, i decided to pick up a aquamaxx coneS 1. Dt 40 breeder and sump hold 30 gallons so 70 total in volume. Going to be stocked with clams and sps and a decent bioload. The price was good at $230 new shipped so i thought i would give it a try and it will be he tomorrow with free shipping. I used to have their HOB-1 on my nano and it was great, so i am expecting the same thing.

Good choice.

I doubt you will be disappointed! I've had mine for a while and its a reliable little work horse and quiet.

When you cycle the tank just run it wide open for a week or so and try it at 9.25 in depth. It breaks in pretty fast but without a bio load you'll need to be patient

skimmer

skimmer

I am looking for a good skimmer for a 120 gal dt and 40 sump/fuge. I bben looking at a lot of skimmers and have narrowed it down to 2 aquamaxxx em300 or reef dynamic ins150. it going to end up a sps dominated tank so I need a lot of production maybe even over kill. any thoughts will be appriciated

hey guys, i have one last question. i did a ton of research but i figured id ask the experts bfore making a decision

im setting up a 10 ten gallon reef with a 5 gallon refugium and want to go with a skimmer.
i was looking at
aquac nano, aquatic life mini, tunze 9002, eshopps nano,
out of these choices im leaning towards eshopps nano.

i know it may not b necessary, but i figure it cant hurt to put a skimmer on the tank. advice is always greatly appreciated

Trying to get opinions on a aqua c urchin pro. Mine is running on a fairly new 65 gal dt and get about 2 cups if water with some skim each day. Either all or nothing as I raise the cup

Should i replace?

The 300 would be a little big. The cone2 or em 200 would work better on a 120. Reef dynamics are pretty good skimmers in terms of balance and performance but the pumps aren't that great at all and the eheim upgrade is just ridiculously priced imo. Aquamaxx em200 would be my choice.
