Getting setup in new sump build out. Using the stock recommended setup and pump. I will be trying out various pumps and mazzei venturi's playing around with it.

Turned it on the evening of June 2nd and letting it break in. I was figuring it would be close to 2 weeks to break in.

Took a reading of the air draw of the mag1800 and stock venturi setup on the mtx. Its getting around 14 scfh air draw.

Ok, maybe not 2 weeks but 1 day. The water/air level rose on it's own to what seems to be it's sweet spot just at the flange.

Here it is the morning of June 3rd.

2 Days later....

and I'm pretty darn impressed with what this skimmer is doing only a few days into it with the mag18. I checked the air draw again and its right about 14scfh.

Crazy what so little air draw can do with enough contact time.

Almost half gallon pulled so far since it was able to raise the foam head up the neck. I think 2 days worth now. Not bad for just breaking in.

3 days later.....

and it's like it's been on my system years

I'm also looking forward to trying out a different mazzei venturi with the mag 18 and also a waveline dc12000 pump with both mazzei injectors. I also still need to hook up the killawatt. I absolutely love I'm not stuck with any kind of configuration with this skimmer. I can manipulate the plumbing, the pump, the venturi, and heck I could even hook up a needle wheel on this if I wanted and skip the venturi. Possibilities are endless it seems.

I just ordered my 430 DT 550 total volume which will be mixed reef med/high fish load and am looking for recommendations on a good skimmer.

This question has been asked before and I'd searched it.

But my sro1000int picks up and drops foam head through out the day. My research tells me this is because my bioload is too light for the skimmer?

I've got a 130gal with about 15-20 gallon sump. About 10 fish in the system all 3-4 or less. feeding is done once a day.

Is my assumption correct? I don't mind if the skimmer is overrated for the moment as I'm going to be adding fish to the system.

Right the DB6-I should perform better with a little more contact time..
It is the newer version of the skimmer.

I hate that, RB is the site. Petty little bickering.
Censoring of this type is bull, it just hurts the hobby.

Hello all,

Looking for a in sump skimmer recommendation. I currently have a 65 falling tank with a 20 gallon sump. It's going to be sps dominant with a medium stock. I've been looking at both the Nyos 120 and the RLSS DB6-I. I'm not looking to spend anymore than that. Which one of these would be the better option or is there another one I should look into?

Thanks!

Both would be fine...
I would check the Nyos threads. I have been hearing some negatives on the pumps.

So the general consensus for ATB skimmers NOW is that they use cheaper pumps from a rather questionable company, but other than that don't have issues and skim about the same?

You can still get them with the sicce pumps also.
I have the dc pump and they work insane and no issues but I have been thinking of switching back to sicce because I just cant stand Jebao plus Sicce are know reliable.
I had recommended to Paul to offer both options on the website, might sell a few more skimmers. Such a high quality skimmer with the lower end pump. But I also think they get more request for DC pumps.
With he new Sicce DC pumps hitting the market I bet we see a switch soon. Deltec does the same and uses Jebao. I bet coming up we see a switch with these two companies, it only makes sense.
That I want to try..

Only kink I see is Sicce bring out there own line of skimmers which to me is a mistake because it will make skimmer companies think twice about using a Sicce pump because now they are a competitor too.

I was debating between the atb and bk mini. Ended up with the mini. That rd3 is a beast.

Yea it sure is but expensive too. BK makes good stuff..
Mini is a great skimmer, only thing that I do not like about it is no drain.
It is another skimmer I would like to try just a little expensive for me right now.

The drain port is there with a rubber stopper. I just had to Jimmy rig this thing yesterday. Wasn't to hard. Added a jg barb insert 3/8 wrapped with some Teflon and I made myself a drain.

very nice!!!!!!! which pump do you get the most heat from? the Mag or the DC turned up? I'm not concerned so much about watts, just heat and foot print of course.

I'm on the fence between the MVX-26 and the LR SVS2-24.

want to purchase on in the next month or so. trying to do as much research as possible between now and then.

If its insump the watts will directly tell you and allow you to compare apples to apples between any submerged pump. Its when they are external then how they can dissipate heat away from the pump into the air and not into the water makes a big difference.

So, the mag18 ran with less watts used so would generate leas heat into the water then the waveline dc 12000.
