Skimmer Q&A Thread

What we change is: Our Pinwheel, Volute & Venturi. We change the base and use titanium screws to attach the Volute.

HMM I thought they changed more, I mentioned those above.
That really increases performance but not the reliability.

What really needs to be changed and this is with all dc pumps really is China really seems to skimp on heat sinks. Also capacitors used in power supplies.
These increase the reliability.

Dc has it uses for sure and add some extra adjust ability. The airstar dc pump sure does performs well.

This may help explain also:
The pumps we are using are the Jecod DCT pumps which are higher quality then the regular DC pumps from Jebao.
The New Brand Jecod which is from the Jebao Factory, provides:
a new 10 Speed mode controller (All the electronics are in the controller now)
ECO materials to build the Pump. (Stronger plastic to fix the hairline crack issues)
T series for DC Pump provides more energy save and stable of Pump lifetime Use

OK that is what I though.
That is good.

LOL Just saw it on RB....

That controller looks hot..

I bet we start to see these in allot of skimmer especially since sicce is the pump of choice for so many skimmers.

hello again. I know i have been posting and asking a lot lately but i simply can't decide between all the skimmers out there. I think i have narrowed it down too these 3 skimmers, what do you guys think? I am looking for an set and forget kind of skimmer which is somewhat quiet and consistent without being too sensitive. My tank is 80 gallon display and 25 gallon sump, mixed reef with a small bioload at the moment.

Rlss r61
bubble king mini 160
lifereef svs3-24

With that budget I'd get a hold of Slief on lthis site and he will get you into a great skimmer.

They should all work fine.
Might want to throw the ATB 840 v2.0 depending on load this might be slightly big.

I am not a fan of the lifereef for under the cabinet skimmers, I have owned one and it is not because they do not work fine because they do. It is I think their are more efficient skimmers out there for under cabinet skimmers. I actually like lifereef skimmers where they are not under the tank and you get them much taller, that is where their skimmers shine because of increased contact area.

Bubble king mini if you can afford it is a fine skimmer. Would be a good match and should last a long time.

RLSS skimmers are the best buy for the money.

Thank you. Why isnt the lifereef an effective skummer for my tank :-)?. i like the fact they dosent overflow and that you Can change the pump with Any kind of pump. But if the order skimmers are more effective than the lifereef, i will delete it from my list and focus on the other two.

I didn't say it isn't effective, I said the others are more efficient. I also said they would all work in your list. Lifereef requires a pump that can handle some back pressure which is usually a larger pump.. Larger pump mean more energy. They work off a pressurized venturi which is a older design.

thank you so much :-)

I am going to take a closer look at the Bk mini and the Rlss instead of the lifereef.
The only thing i have against the bk skimmer is the price for a new replacement pump and other spareparts. And the rlss, I am a bit nervous about the waveline pump as I have read that they look a lot like the jebao pumps. But of course that dosent have to be a bad thing.

Bubble king pumps should last a long time and should be the most reliable pump on the market...

Rlss pumps are better than Jebao, Jebao are based on the RLSS pump as are many of the DC pumps. RLSS will now be handled by coralvue so that is another plus. But I would still not put reliability up there with the tunze, sicce or bk pumps for reliability.
