Skimmer Question - (I know - I know)

My skimmer does nothing but over flow the collection cup. I have an AM-Turobofloater 1000 Multi. It produces great tiny bubbles and foam. I have removed the two adjustment knobs and it still overflows the riser cone. I set my tank up this past weekend. I have a 120 gallon with 2-3" of sugar sand, some base rock (120lbs), and the salinity is at 1.028 (I'm gradually trying to lower it), the temp has been at 80.0 - so I lowered my heaters to the 75 degree level last night. Will all this cause it to foam too much or is there something else that I'm missing? Any help is appreciated - I hope to add live rock as soon as I can ($). Hoping to do this in a week or two.

Thanks for your help!! :D

I am not sure about that model..is it an in-sump skimmer? If it is maybe you have too much water in your sump?. My skimmer has a recommended water line and a telescope that allows me to make adjustments but when I really didn't know anything about my skimmer I always had a overflow problem because of to much water in the sump or the telescope wasn't in the right spot and it would spill over into the collection cup.

The skimmer is a "HOB" model with the OR 2700. I don't think there is a way to turn down the pump - is there? And no there is no telescoping ability that I can tell. I was wondering if the salinity and the water temperature was causing it to over run the cone/waste cup. :(

Hmm..is it possible to contact the manufacturer or look for a forum that is dedicated to your sump (on the manufacturers site?).

Since it is a newly set up tank have you added any supplements like cycle or amquell.. also there has to be some sort of adjustment some where on the skimmer, my hob remora pro has a cup that can be moved up or down.
Why do you have the skimmer going if you are just starting your cycle with no animals.. If you left food in the tank to start the cycle it can go crazy.

Some of those may be my answers - I don't know. I did put a different attachement that raised the collection cup about 2 inches - didn't help. I have tried to contact the vendor. The site I have found and I have tried to email will not accept my attempts to contact them - it's in German. I have put a couple of additives in the tank. A product by Kent to take chlorine and chloramine out of tap water and a product to start the cycle (bacteria additive or something) - I'm at work right now and I can't remember the name. And I have put in some fish food (flake) to try to start a cycle. I don't have my LR yet - so I don't think the cycle has started in earnest. I have read on here a couple of places that suggest you run your skimmer during the cycle process. So I'm kind of out here in "no man's" land with this issue. I'll keep trying some different things. There was a couple of threads on here about this skimmer a while back, but the search engine is always busy on this forum. There is a clear 1" tube that connects the pump to the skimmer in the tank. I'm thinking about going to Lowe's and purchasing some more and making that connection longer - I thought that may lower the water/foam level a little. We will see. Thanks for all the attempts at help - I really do appreciate it - atleast I'm not trying to do this totally on my own. Anybody else with an answer or a suggestion - I'm ALL EARS!!!!!!

manny additives will make skimmers go nuts for a little while, so i am guessing that is your problem. give it a coupple of days and see if it calms down.
