Skimmer Question

A few months ago I had a friend give me a seaclone skimmer. I hooked it up and after about a day, decided that I'd rather just use the mj1200 off from it. One day I was feeling bored so I put a new air valve on it and dialed it in and so far I have to say it's not bad for the price I paid (nothing). The only thing I've noticed is that when I add anything to the tank, it stops producing any sort of foam. When I feed, scrape, dose...even just stick my hand in the tank, the skimmer stops foaming for a good hour.

Is this normal?

I ran a seaclone for years and it never did that, but now I have a aqua c ev120 that I hooked up a little over a week ago and it stops making foam when I do the things you said.

You almost answered your own question =P
The oils from your skin can interfere with the surface tension of the bubbles. My skimmer does it too, it usually takes 20-30 minutes to get working again. I wouldn't worry about it, but if you're really unhappy with the fact you could try washing your hands/arms before hand or wearing gloves.

I agree with you. Whenever I replace a filter sock with a brand new one the msx250 skimmer goes nuts for awhile. I usually have to crank it down for over night.
