I curently have a sea-clone venturi skimmer... it works... decently. i am building a rather small sump and need to save on some room. anyways i saw a Red sea prizm skimmer. it was quite abit flatter than the sea-clone. i read some reviews online and people have said it was quite loud. i was wondering if anybody could reccoment it... or maybe reccomend another *small skimmer?

If you want a high quality small, hang on skimmer, get a Deltec MC500. It is very costly, but so will your reef be, if you continue to use products such as SeaClone, and to a lesser degree, Prizm.

IMO, it's not as good as a seaclone...and that's not saying much.

you can use your sl in sump...just put the MJ right in the bottom inlet. It would also help if you drilled out the lid and added a air stone 3/4 way down(between the inner and middle tubes). use a three way air valve to keep the bubbles from flowing out into the tank or the water level getting too high and overflowing the collection cup.

With that said, I would just sell it on ebay and buy a used remora/urchin for a $100.

I can vouch first hand for a Seaclone. They dont work. I can also vouch for a Remora, They work well. Might not be the best but its a giant step up from a seaclone or prizm.

Sure it is, but at what price? Close to 200 I believe, and many have the" my remora stopped working" thread in their name. Myself included. The will skim yes. But not all polutants. There is a large degree of things left behind. Hook up a very high quality skimmer at the same time as a Remora, and you may be suprised what was in your tank still. I would gladly pay double + for something that will not stop, and will pull everything out of a 55-100.

i looked up the deltec mc500... it was 175 brittish lbs... whatever that comes out to. so basically the deltec... from what landragon says... will get all the **** out of my water. does it work well in a sump setup??

Not that I am aware of. It is hang on, but they make several in sump models. I suppose if the water was high enough and stable at that level it would work in a sump. It is $428 US. There are fine skimmers for a 55,for in sump use, cheaper than that, although the MC500 will probably beat them performance wise. You generally get what you pay for. I would not put money in a SeaClone at all. I would only looka t a Prizm for a 30 or less. But it is loud and finnicky. I have owned both.

yeah the reviews on the prizm said it was loud. i already own a sea-clone... mostly because i was just starting out in the hobby, an didint know what was good and what wasnt. but i'm going to try and give it back to petsmart where i got it and hopefully get my money back. anyways it was like 100 bucks. i think i mostly just sucks water into the collection cup... never looks dirty. but yeah, i'm basically trying to correct all my novice mistakes. i'm still a "starving student" so money is ALWAYS an issue. i'll check on ebay, and some local shops around here to see if they carry the deltec. in stockton i've only seen the remora's, sea-clone, and the prizms. not alot of good stuff here.

I think I said that the Remora was not the best. I am also pretty sure that it will not skim with a Deltec. Buffer also said that he was a starving student. I can only say that the remora that I have has worked well the entire time that I have owned it.
