Skimmer Recommendation

Hello Jeremy, I'm thinking about purchasing a new skimmer. I have a SRO XP2000 now, but I am not able to pull dark skimmate and it has been running for about 9 months now.

I have a 90g display with about another 50-60g split between the sump and refugium. I am running an Eheim 1262 as my return pump (not sure if that matters). I have 8 fishes, 2 bubbletip anemones, 8-10 mini maxi anemones, small assortment of LPS (dendro, torch, hammer, and acan) and maybe 20 SPS frags and mini colonies. I would like to feed more without worry and will add a few more fishes, eventually.

What skimmer would you suggest? I am interested in trying a Vertex, BK, or ATB skimmer. I am looking for a highly adjustable skimmer that is able to skim consistently in both low and high organic situations. Many thanks!

Hi, I really think the skimmer you have now is more than capable of doing what you're wanting it to do. Assuming the skimmer is dialed in correctly it can only remove the dissolved organics that are present in the system, which is what you're seeing. My vote is to stick with what you have.

Having said all that, if you're really wanting to try something different yo might consider the new Vertex Omega 150 found here: http://premiumaquatics.com/aquatic-supplies/VX-OM150.html , and also a large thread about it coming in the forum here: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2222623

You could also take a look at the Bubble King Mini 160 or Mini 180, which would both be sized just fine for that system. Those can be found here: http://premiumaquatics.com/aquatic-supply/bubbleking.html

Thanks, Jeremy. I really appreciate your comments. Do you have any tips for dialing in the SRO?

What is the water depth that you have the skimmer sitting in now? Also, if you could post a couple of photos of the skimmer in the sump that would be helpful as well.

Hi Jeremy -

The skimmer is sitting in 5.75" water. Here's some pictures. Thank you for taking the time to help me out! Let me know if there's something else you'd like to see.
