Skimmer Setup Advice

Hi All,
I am setting up a 90 gallon with a 50 gallon sump, total gallon around 135-140.
What would be the pros and cons of using an ATB 1059A skimmer rated up to 530 gallons on this setup? Any inputs would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!
Mark

I would look at a smaller skimmer for your setup. Its oversized and getting consistent skimmate may be difficult. I think it would be a waste of money and time. It comes with a DC 1500 pump, probably pull around 1500-1800 lph. Even IF you could dial it down your lowest air draw will 1200lph. And general rule of thumb is 500-600 lph per 100 gallons of water volume. I think for the money you could get a skimmer (any skimmer) more balanced for your size setup.

yeah go with a smaller skimmer. I had a RLSS R6i on my gfs and it wasn't pulling crap out. switched to a smaller skimmer and it was pulling up gunk. I am currently using a aquamaxx cone 1 on my 70 gallon oceanic with a trigger sump. It's working great for that system.

Rlss6i or a vertex180i would be awesome for 100g'ish tank with a 30-40g sump (around same total water volume as your set up)
If you wanted to stick with atb, I would suggest the 840.

+1000000. The ATB 840 is a very well balanced skimmer and one of the best Ive ever used. I have briefly used a RLSS6 when they first came out and was impressed with how adjustable and quiet it was. I havent used any of the new vertex skimmers so I cant comment on them.

Why not use one of the ones you have FS? any of them would do the trick I like the AquaC over the ASM, Sedra pumps are known for swollen impellers.

Newer skimmer now are much more efficient. A less expensive buble magus curve 6/7 or reef octopus 150INT will do the job. ATB is nice - have one the that I been using for more than 7yrs now. Only problem with ATB is sourcing for parts and upgrade aside from being expensive.
