Have you seen the new extreme Octopus Skimmers? They look promising, but details are lacking. http://www.marinesolutionsinc.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=22_48

Not sure why you guys have a problem with AquaC...they changed the skimmer a few years ago, but still seem to carry the bad rap they got from the earlier models. I have a EV-180 on my 150 and it works great.

I agree the Remoras are not very impressive. I have one on my hospital tank...it's not very impressive....but the EV is great.
Not to hijack...but what IS a good HOB skimmer

not all "needle wheel" skimmers are effective, and they all require rather substantial pumps as far as I know...
I've had two of needle wheel skimmers, and if given a choice, I'd choose a a simple down-draft design over a needle wheel every time.

I would also bypass on the AquaC(rap) EV180. Besides what everyone else has commented, it's noisy too. I like my BM160, but the H&S A150 is so much better built, easier to adjust, great customer service and 2 year warranty.Originally posted by robertloop
Been doing a lot of research on skimmers the last few days. The AquaC 180 does get great reviews. (The newer style) At least the reviews that I came across.I had no idea how many companies are out there untill now. And they ALL make the same claims. I feel like its such a shot in the dark.

ditto
I have a Euroreef 6-1, (RS-100), because its been such a great skimmer, and that I am back on track, I am emptying the cup every other day........I have added the gate valve mod to it and had to replace the pump, but that is understandable.
I think I am actually starting to enjoy the "skunky" smell.
ASM and Euroreef are "basicly" the same thing. Unless your hardcore Barebottom uber sterile SPS crazy, any of the popular brands mentioned will work for you.
Just avoid the HOB types and get an in sump type and call it good.
