Skimmers, best and worst...

I am on the market for a new skimmer, and have found a few deals, but IDK if they are worth getting.

keep in mind this is for a 75 gallon reef tank....

the Red Sea Prizm Deluxe?
CPR Backpack or CPR
um...some others i forgot...lol

Excelent skimmers that I have had good experiences with:
Octopus
ASM
AquaC Remora Pro (hang-on), Urchin Pro (in-sump), or EV series

Stay away from:
SeaClone
Prism
Anything that is about 1/4 the price of some other brand (cheap knockoffs)

The skimmer is one of those things not to skimp out on as you really do get what you pay for.

NO, what about this one!
Current USA Fission Recirculating Protein Skimmer 150

recirculating is the way to go if you can find it cheap. but remember you will need a feed pump also. are you only looking for a hob or will an insump work. if a in sump will i know of a used downdraft for sale that would work very well.

Nautilus te Protein Skimmer Kent Marine

i agree with grog stay away from the cheap stuff or you will be back on the forums wanting help. check into euroreef, mrc, aquaC etc. euroreefs are always on the market used and i believe matt is selling one at the swap meet on saturday

you said that you know of one for sale? what kind, i am looking for somehting htat will do the job well, hang-on or in-sump... please letm eknow about the one that you know about...thanks, also, did the other guy buy that sump you had for sale?

Seth

if you can go insump the better it will look and perform. hob will get some of tank turn over from the powerhead hanging in the tank but not all. at least with a sump you can have more volume of water contacting the skimmer. do you have a sump? if not lmk and i have a 20 high that you can have all you have to do is buy the glass and buy a hangon sock setup from sitc and you will be set. lmk

I have a rubbermaid sump, not really any more room in there, asi have two catalina pumps in there and a bunch of tubes, that is why i need to look for a new one, is the 20 high that you are talking about the Custon Oceanic one? I dont have alot of room under my 75, or around it...lol

sorry took me some time to think and write. i'll find out about the skimmer but it's big that why i need to know what you have so i can see if it will work. here's a pick of the skimmer

skimmer is rated for a 250. will work perfect for you. skimmer and a rio 3100 for 150.00. this thing works with 990 gph going through it. lmk

for $200 I would definately recommend the Octopus NW150. I use it on my 50 gallon and it pulls some stuff out (more than I want to think about). Mine is stock but you can mod them if you want

I use the same one on my 55 and its awesome. When I get the new 150 setup I will be buying another octopus.

my only complaint is it doesn't have a skimmate overflow. It produces so much, even when dry skimming, I have to empty it constantly. It would be awesome if I could have it drain to a milk jug or something, so easy to remove and empty.
