I'm hoping some of you can help me identify a problem that I'm experiencing with my pump. Heres a summary:
-Brand new skimmer purchased yesterday & given a vinegar bath for 10 hours. Seemed to work fine, produced lots of foam, etc...Unplugged overnight and left dry , ready to be placed in sump this morning.
- Skimmer placed in sump. Pump makes a low dull rumble but doesn't seem to be working. No bubbles or visible water movement. Skimmer unplugged and disassembled.
- This afternoon: pump placed in water on its own,, still nothing as far as i could see. Spoke to seller who said try again, which i did - but this time placed pump up vertically in a pot. It worked. Seller advised to let it run 20 mins etc and then reassemble skimmer and try the unit in the sump.
-I did as suggested; skimmer worked fine for two hours, foaming up the cone. However was extremely noisy (could hear it in another room). Switched power off to do other work in the tank for half an hour. Turned skimmer back on, no visible movement (looked same as 1st time there was a problem). Put hand near inlet could feel very light suction.
I think I have a problem with my pump - both times its happened after turning off the power. Could it be starting in reverse? Is there anything I can try to solve this before asking for a warrantry repair?
Thanks for your time.
